Quarantine - Day 17

DAY 17: Danny Rubin is an utter genius. He is the man who 28 years ago wrote the screenplay for the movie Groundhog Day. It tells the story of a man forced to relive the same day over and over again. Will he succumb to his worst impulses, or will he find someway to make a change for the better somehow amid the grinding unchanging and mundane routine? To be honest, our routine is not a bad one as far as that goes, and today was not Groundhog Day, of course, it was April Fool’s Day, so the girls arranged for us to start the day with the faces in all the pictures in the place to be covered with post-it notes, and some pictures hung upside down. Other than that, the girls start the day with yoga, the chime rings to start school for Ella, and Abbie and I make videos (10 so far with 3 more in the pipe). Ella got a special treat today with a Zoom lunch meeting with her classmates who she hasn’t seen in 19 days. They were hungry for each other’s company.

For dinner, Laura made a lovely pulled pork roast with homemade coleslaw and macaroni and cheese. People walked outside in the sunshine with their dogs while keeping a decent distance from one another with a practiced aplomb. All is well, except for where it isn’t, but we try to not focus on that every moment.

Our technical difficulties are never too far behind us to not catch up and pass us. More problems with one of the laptops while even more problems with arranging a repair of the other laptop. Still, a video was produced and a deadline reached to have our website showing an example of differentiated content. We continue to build out five grades of online learning content for the 300,000 or so students of CPS or wherever to use if they so choose.

I wanted very much to get outside, but I also wanted to meet a self-imposed deadline so, regrettably, I stayed in. Tomorrow it gets colder with clouds marching in.
